Access to knowledge

In the last few years, JIS Group of Colleges offering B.Tech education have Focused Access to Knowledge through classroom education, laboratory handworks, research, academic & industry tie-ups. Modern library facilities serve as the focal points of innovation and information policy.

In all our engineering campuses, there are large number of educational resources suitable for the delivery of both hard copy & soft copy, free of charge, on a wide variety of subjects. The Knowledge Centre requires that the user logs brief details prior to accessing its catalogue and content. The registered user may then access the catalogue of resources, select modules to use, and make notes.

At JIS Group Educational Initiatives, we ensure that all classes offered are taught by highly experienced Faculty & we have very optimal student teacher ratio. Individual students' instructional needs are recognized and addressed, and meaningful research participation with professors becomes an integral component of the overall learning experience.

Learning Tools

We continue improving the learning environment by finding new ways to present up-to-date information to students, encourage active participation and facilitate creativity in all aspects of the curriculum and improve students' ability to absorb and retain information. The writing assignments are integrated with course material where they often complement analysis and design work.

We emphasise an approach to deliver the science and engineering concepts involved in fuel-cell technology to the engineering classroom. This approach includes using traditional lectures, multimedia learning objects, and a lab activity to enhance learning in a hands-on, interactive manner. We also highlight the collaboration between several educational institutions and research and education programs that have made the development and implementation of this unit possible.

Labs

The Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation and Computer Science Laboratories are spacious & equipped with hi-tech specialized engineering tools. Computer Laboratories have 'state of the art computer centers' with a campus wide network. Licensed multi-user versions of required software have been installed along with internet facilities. Each student is provided with independent system. Lab technicians and assistants are specialised, experienced and trained professionals.

Language Labs

All the engineering institutes of JIS Group Educational Initiatives offer a high quality of instruction in English Language. Our programmes have been designed to give students the linguistic and communication skills, as well as the confidence, to compete globally. Our English language programme provides a thorough grounding in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Our unique Language Development Laboratory prepares the students for a global career so that they can communicate with confidence.

Library

Students can access more than 2 lacs subject specific books spread over 2000 reader places in our campuses. In addition there are more than hundred e-journals and magazines for students to get updated information. We seek to provide access to all books and articles recommended for courses which can be borrowed or used in the libraries. The JIS Group Educational Initiatives libraries are also institutional members of British Council Library and a member of the Indian National Library in Engineering Science and Technology (INDEST) which is managed by IIT- Delhi. Consequently, the faculty, staff and students get access to more than 200 on-line journals, magazines of IEEE and IEE. The Library is fully automated with LIBSYS facility.

'Book Bank' facility is provided to students of B.Tech in lieu of which the students get 5 basic text book to be used by them for a semester. Members of book bank are issued two reference books at a time for reading purpose. Book Bank members are also allowed to use Central Library as regular students.

Teaching Tools

An ambitions project of linking all the campuses through internet backbone and VOIP facility is being implemented. This will enable students to attend class through video conferencing.

Information Services

  • All graduate students today need to use computers and networks as part of their work, whether to write essays, to run applications, to access information on the Web or to exchange e-mails with tutors and fellow students. Once registered at any of our college campus, college ID card is used to open the gateway to the entire campus network. The students have full access to the software applications - the basics and subject specific, computer based training, the information database and web sites as well as cost-effective high quality printing essential for production of assignment papers. We are now developing a network - Student Central, the student intranet, which aims to provide interactive on-line course materials and library access, personalized home pages, open discussion boards and email. One of the key on-line services to support postgraduate study at the university is the on-line library. This is a web gateway to a vast array of electronic resources carefully selected to assist in course work and projects, consisting of web sites, electronic journals, electronic books and on-line databases. The on-line library will be available from any computer within any of our Campus and from students' own computers from designated internet access areas. There is a wide range of software available; this includes the standard Microsoft Office productivity suite, DBMS packages, bibliographic, quantitative and qualitative analysis software and a range of specialist subject specific tools.
